Pre-renovation, this kitchen’s layout was not working for our client. The island was in an awkward shape with the sink in the middle, eating up valuable counter space for cooking prep. In addition cabinet space was limited leading to storage issues. For such a large home this kitchen was drastically undersized and non-functioning.
Our goal was to stay within the original footprint of the kitchen, but to increase functionality. More counter space and storage was a priority for this homeowner. By changing the direction of the island you could take room from the large eating area to allow for a bigger island with cabinets on the backside. We moved the dishwasher over slightly to allow for better flow through the kitchen during after meal clean ups.
